Sunday night 19th, 8:00pm.
Sorry I missed blogging yesterday's events. Have not really been 100% physically but today I woke up feeling super good.
Friday night at 3:00am, Peggy wakes me up and says "We're being invaded, our outside hall light is on!". She gets up and pokes her head out our door and she sees the front door to the street wide open and people coming in with suitcases. Although they think they are being quiet, they are not. Turns out 3 families from Dakar are here with their kids and will be staying thru Sunday night. Jazz festival going on and Monday is a holiday. A little explanation on our living arrangments. Amy has rented the first floor of a 2 floor apartment and we are on one side of the house and Amy is on the other. Well, the door to our apartment opens onto the street and a set of steps goes up to the second floor apartment. So that is why they are coming into our hallway.
Last night they had some kind of big shindig and maybe 30 or 40 people were wandering into our area, going upstairs and just loitering. There were even 6 to 10 older school girls who barged in on Peggy in our living room and she couldn't get rid of them. They wanted everything they saw including our pictures, medicine, books and Peggy liked to never got rid of them. Tonight is their last night, thank the Lord. We did meet one of the families tonight and they are really nice and professional people from Dakar.
Yesterday spent a few hours at the center and loved on the kids. One older boy who comes all the time and never smiles found a bicycle at the center that someone had ridden over and he got on it and tried to ride. I thought how sad, to be his age and cannot ride a bicycle. I held it for him as he practiced but being in a small area he wasn't having much success, but oh did he have fun trying.
Amy and Laura added some new shelves and a sitting area with pillows and the girls LOVED it. You would have thought you were at a sleep-over the way they sat and laid around and just loved the seating.
We then went over to the church school and I started replacing all the window screens with Nelson and Mieta's help we got a lot done.
Got up Sunday morning and went to church. Nelson preached and we had communion. It was so thrilling, with Pastor Omer and his family and Bryan out of town, Pastor Omer's teenage daughter and pre-teen son led worship and prayers. Truly being used of the Lord at this early age. I thought to myself, here are teen age kids, with no hope (other than Jesus) to have a normal life and to be serving God when everything around them and all their friends have no regard for our God.
Peggy poked me several times during the service, (nothing new there) but this time she was pointing to a tree outside our second floor window. In it were 3 little boys listening to our singing and worship and later they were joined by 2 more. Peggy said they were even clapping and playing like they were beating drums. I thought to myself, modern day Zacheus', just wanting to see what was going on and what is this these people are doing. Peggy has really been praying for the Holy Spirit to move over this city, and she is getting quite frustrated at not seeing any signs of the Spirit's moving. I tried to explain we may never see it in our lifetime, but in God's timing.
We stayed at church and finished the rest of the screens. We had some help today from a young teenager from the Ivory Coast who is attending military school here in Senegal. Pastor Omer preaches every week at the school and when he can find a ride, this young man comes to church. He is so smart, his government chose him to attend military school and he will be a soldier when he finishes. We then took a taxi home, headed for a late lunch at a restaurant downtown. Note to self,,find out the French word for "well done" before ordering beef....enough said.
Went by and saw my hardware guy and went to see DouDou the man who is making me some furniture for the school. My hardware guy is so kind hearted, he keeps cookies and powdered milk in his boutique for the street kids who come to him. I told him he had a good heart and I gave him some money and told him to buy more cookies for the kids. He understood and was very happy. He is practicing his English with us.
Tomorrow we head to the market early with Nelson and Mieta' to get some good deals on fresh fruits and vegetables.
Love to all,
Ken and Peggy
